How to Build a Castle
Do you prefer travelling back to the Middle Ages? A warm welcome to the castle town of Friesach! In 2009, people began to build a medieval hill castle without the aid of pneumatic hammers, cranes and concrete mixers. Only medieval crafts and methods are used. 38 craftsmen work on the construction site that is 4,000 sqm in size. A great emphasis is put on natural building materials which are sourced entirely from the region. On a guided tour with experts, you can experience this spectacular project at first hand and unravel the mysteries of medieval construction. Have a great time with the monkeys in the zoo “Affenberg” right next to the castle ruins of “Burgruine Landskron”. About 160 Japanese macaques that live within an enclosure measuring four hectares are waiting for you. So do the animals in the zoo “Tierpark Rosegg”, in the reptile zoo “Happ” in Klagenfurt or in the “Alpenwildpark”, a zoo in Feld am See with species native to the Alps.
