Certainly, advanced cross-country skiers can’t get enough of moving across the landscape as swift as an arrow. But there’s more to it than that. Cross-country skiers will find trails for classic and skate style, for beginners and advanced skiers in 41 cross-country skiing ares in Lower Austria.
For all those who haven’t started yet: In most places, you can take lessons and rent equipment.

The Vienna Alps offer multiple high-altitude tracks with a breathtaking mountain scenery as a backdrop. The “Wechsel-Panorama-Loipe” (60km) is only one of the cross-country tracks at an altitude of 1,000m and more.
The Waldviertel and Mostviertel regions are blessed with plenty of snow and home to several cross-country skiing centres. The tracks are well-groomed all winter long.
Ski-Hiking Uphill
With skins attached to your skis, you’re walking uphill, venturing into an untapped area of the mountains. Then, on top, you’re getting ready for the descent in untouched powder snow. Yippee! Ski touring is an exhausting winter activity and gets your adrenaline pumping. The mountainous parts of Lower Austria are extremely popular among ski tourers. The snow is deep and powdery, the risk of avalanches is lower than in other areas but, of course, constantly monitored. Do you fancy taking a more relaxing walk in the snow-covered landscape?
