An Indulgent Break in Austria’s Finest Deli
Culinary delights are a must for every good farm holiday. After all, farms are the origin of all the delicious products that we love so much! The famous pumpkin seed oil is produced in Southern and Eastern Styria. Strong cheeses and ham can be found on every hearty snack platter that’s served in the traditional wine taverns dotting the “wine roads”. Fine wines from the local vineyards, fresh bread with a crispy crust and delectable desserts from the farmer’s kitchen are topping it off. Herbs, salads, vegetables and berries on the breakfast table don’t travel long distances - they come directly from the farmer’s garden. Enjoy moments of pure joy and indulgence! It’s worth getting up early.

Breakfast for Food Lovers
A Good Start for a Good Day
Breakfast is often called “the most important meal of the day”. For a good reason. A healthy breakfast helps you boost your energy levels to stay active and alert during the day.
During your farm holiday, breakfast will include everything you need for a good start of the day. The freshly baked bread contains carbohydrates replenishing your supply of glucose. Ready to keep your metabolism up for the day. Protein-rich food such as milk, cheese, butter and yoghurt is important in order to help you feel full and active. Fresh fruit and vegetables are essential parts of a healthy breakfast.
By the way, the egg on the breakfast table is one of the most nutritious foods - a kickstart to your day. Drinking enough water, tea, fruit juice or coffee will help keep your body hydrated throughout the day. After a good breakfast, you’ll feel fresh as a daisy!
Pumpkin Seed Oil - Styria’s Black Gold
May I Add Some “Kürbiskernöl”?
What a question! The answer is obvious. In Styria, the oil made from pumpkin seeds with its distinct, nutty taste is an obligatory topping on every salad. It’s also used to finish off soups, spreads and desserts. You absolutely have to try scrambled eggs served with pumpkin seed oil!
This natural product of a greenish-black colour is a popular ingredient known well beyond Styria’s borders - not only by gourmets. For a good reason if you ask us.
Visit an oil mill and learn more about the production of pumpkin seed oil. Did you know that 35,000 seeds need to be pressed in order to obtain one bottle of oil?
The people in Styria know one essential thing: good taste comes with the best ingredients!
Bakery Treats
Do You Have a Sweet Tooth?
An enticing smell fills the air in the farmhouse when the farmer bakes bread. Does this smell take you back to your childhood? A slice of freshly baked bread with some butter from the farm, topped with crisp radishes and chives - a snack so simple, but yet so delicious. What a mouth-watering delight!
For those of you with a sweet tooth, our farmers have plenty of recipes for delectable desserts in store. Any questions? Just ask the farmer if you have troubles preparing a dish. They will share special insider tips with you, for sure. You’re welcome to peek over their shoulders in the farmer’s kitchen. For them, it’s the greatest joy to see that you like what you eat!
Fine Wines
From Grapes to Glass
Imagine sitting on the terrace at sunset with a glass of wine, gazing at the vineyard-covered countryside. In one of the traditional wine taverns, called “Buschenschank” in this part of the country, you’ll relish a delicious snack platter with bacon, ham, pork roast, “Verhackert” (a bacon-based spread), cheese, spreads, fresh vegetables and home-made bread.
The delicious food is served outside - you’ll be surrounded by a lush garden or even by vines. That’s how a vineyard stay in Styria looks like. An indulgent holiday with plenty of culinary delights!
Our vineyards have your favourite wine in store, for sure. White, red, rosé, golden hue, fruity, dry, sweet - the Styrian wine regions produce wine in all its variety.
Specialities from Styria
Pumpkins, Runner Beans & More
We’ve already told you about the Styrian pumpkin seed oil. Yes, we strongly recommend you to try it. But there are a lot more local delicacies from Styria that are waiting to be sampled!
- Pumpkins have been calling Styria their home for a long time. They’re the basic ingredient for a number of delicious dishes.
- Runner beans are a must in every traditional wine tavern (“Buschenschank”). The German name literally translates to “beetle beans”. Try a runner bean salad with a copious amount of pumpkin seed oil. Our favourite!
- Apples - Styria is Austria’s centre of apple production. Along the “Apple Road”, it’s all about apples and other delicious food products made from this great fruit.
- Horseradish - Do you like it hot? If you love spicy food, we recommend adding a pinch of fresh, grated horseradish to your meal. It’s an absolute delight to have with a hearty snack platter and clears a stuffy nose.
